Odds Boost Calculator

Works out the boosted odds, the extra profit and, if you add your own win probability, the expected value of a sportsbook profit boost. Use it to decide whether a boost is actually worth taking.

How to use it

  1. 1 Enter the original odds and pick the format you are typing (American, decimal or fractional).
  2. 2 Enter the boost percentage and your stake.
  3. 3 If the boost has a limit on extra winnings, enter it. Leave it blank if there is no limit.
  4. 4 Optionally enter your own win probability to see expected value before and after the boost.

How a profit boost is calculated

A profit boost raises the profit on a winning bet, not the stake you get back. A 20% boost on a bet that would profit $75 adds $15, so the profit becomes $90.

In decimal odds (the total returned per $1 staked, stake included), the boosted price is 1 + (decimal - 1) x (1 + boost). This calculator uses that profit-boost convention. Some books boost the odds number itself, for example turning +150 into +180 by adding to the American figure. That is a different calculation and can give a different answer, so check how your book describes the boost.

A boost is not free money

A boost only has value if the boosted price beats the true chance of winning. Break-even win rate is 1 divided by the decimal odds, so compare it with your own estimate of the win probability. The expected value (EV) is the average result per bet if you could place it many times.

Boosts often come with a cap on extra winnings or a maximum stake. When the cap applies, the calculator limits the extra profit and shows the effective boosted price.

Worked example

Original odds +150 (decimal 2.5), a 20% profit boost and a $50 stake. A win normally profits $75. The boost adds $15, so the profit becomes $90 and the boosted odds are +180 (decimal 2.8). The break-even win rate drops from 40.00% to 35.71%.

If you believe the bet wins 45% of the time, the expected value is +$6.25 before the boost and +$13.00 after it, so the boost adds $6.75.

The formula

Profit before = stake x (decimal - 1) Extra profit = profit before x boost (limited by any cap) Boosted decimal = 1 + (profit before + extra profit) / stake EV = win probability x profit - (1 - win probability) x stake

Frequently asked questions

A promotion that increases the profit paid on a winning bet by a set percentage, often on a chosen market. Your stake is returned as normal.
Not always. A profit boost multiplies the profit, which is what this tool does. Some books instead add to the odds number, which can produce a different price.
No. The boost only helps if the boosted price is better than the true chance of the outcome. A boost on a poor price can still be negative EV.
It limits how much additional profit the boost can add. If the boost would add more than the cap, the calculator uses the cap and shows the lower effective price.
It is your own estimate, such as from a model, or the no-vig implied probability from a sharp market. The calculator cannot know it, so leave it blank if you are unsure.
